Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) made his first public appearance at the recent Binance Dubai Blockchain Week after serving four months in prison in the United States. Having spent more time in jail, he returned to the public with a fit and toned physique. He discussed his prison experience and future plans. CZ: My life in prison wasn’t good; the sentence was harsh.
Zhao Changpeng said his life in prison wasn’t easy, but the free time he had made him realize the importance of connecting with people. He thought the people in prison were actually quite nice. When he first went in, the other inmates all had more money in their accounts than he did; he was the poorest.
He remains a major shareholder of Binance, and will focus solely on investment and education going forward.
Changpeng Zhao stated that he remains a major shareholder of Binance, but cannot offer advice or give orders. “I also believe that a CEO shouldn’t stay in a position for more than 10 years. I have more time to research AI and DeFi, which I haven’t had time to examine in detail before.”
Zhao Changpeng stated that he will focus on education and invest in cryptocurrencies, AI, and biotechnology.

During the US presidential election, both candidates began expressing crypto-friendly sentiments. Changpeng Zhao stated that overall, global regulation is progressing, but large countries are moving more slowly. “While I was in prison, I started seeing Trump support cryptocurrencies, and then I saw both parties starting to support them. I thought, should I hold on for another two months?”
The education program is called Giggle Academy, but it will not issue tokens.
Zhao Changpeng said that he currently spends half of his time on Giggle Academy, which is a way to promote education in a digital way.
When asked if the plan would incorporate cryptocurrency, he stated that there was no need to issue new tokens for Giggle Academy, as there are already too many cryptocurrencies in the world. In the short term, Giggle Academy will not integrate with token economics, but in the long term, it does hope to integrate with Web3.
Changpeng Zhao emphasized the possibility of achieving inclusive education through AI, games, and various technologies.
